چکیده

Endotracheal suctioning is performed regularly in mechanically-ventilated infants and children in the paediatric intensive care unit, by both physiotherapists and nursing staff. The primary purpose of endotracheal suctioning is to remove secretions and prevent airway obstruction, thereby aiming to prevent atelectasis whilst optimising oxygenation and ventilation and decreasing the work of breathing (Guglielminotti et al 1998, Young 1995).

Commentary: Morrow B, Futter M, Argent A. (2006). Effect of endotracheal suction on lung dynamics in mechanically-ventilated paediatric patients.

Endotracheal suctioning is performed regularly in ventilated infants and children to remove obstructive secretions. The effect of suctioning on respiratory mechanics is not known. This study aimed to determine the immediate effect of endotracheal suctioning on dynamic lung compliance, tidal volume, and airway resistance in mechanically-ventilated paediatric patients by means of a prospective ob...

The Effects of Rib Cage Compression before endotracheal suctioning

Abstract Introduction: Accumulation of secretions in airways is a serious complication in intubated and mechanically ventilated patients. Tracheal suctioning which is done with the aim of secretion removal can be used in conjunction with physiotherapy for effective airway clearance and improving gas exchange. Objective: The aim of study was to determine the effects of rib cage compression befor...

Normal saline instillation versus no normal saline instillation And lung Recruitment versus no lung recruitment with paediatric Endotracheal Suction: the NARES trial. A study protocol for a pilot, factorial randomised controlled trial

INTRODUCTION Endotracheal suction (ETS) is a frequent and necessary airway intervention for the intubated child. The aim of ETS is to clear the endotracheal tube and airways of respiratory secretions; however, the methods of performing ETS are varied. Internationally a number of ETS treatments are in use. Many have not been rigorously evaluated in a randomised controlled trial setting, and it i...

Effect of body position and head of bed angle on intra-abdominal and endotracheal tube cuff pressure in mechanically ventilated patients

Introduction: Changing position is one of the typical nursing care in intensive care units. This study aimed to investigate the effect of body positioning on intra-abdominal pressure and endotracheal tube cuff pressure and their relationship with each other in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation Materials and Methods: This was a before-after clinical trial study performed on 70 patients ...
